MGD
Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) is a common eye condition that affects the meibomian glands, which are located in the eyelids and produce oil (meibum) to keep the surface of the eye lubricated. When these glands become blocked or infected, it can cause a variety of symptoms, including dry eye, eye irritation, and inflammation of the eyelids.
MGD is often caused by a combination of factors, including hormonal changes, inflammation, and environmental factors such as dry air or air pollution. It is more common in people who have certain risk factors, such as advanced age, a history of eye surgery, and certain medical conditions, such as blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids) and rosacea (a skin condition that affects the face).
